    Listing Description:
The Suruchin (or Surujin), is a weighted rope weapon traditional to Okinawan Kobudo, and is known for its concealability and range.
These authentic, hand-crafted, labor-intensive Suruchins have been made in the traditional style, using rope and natural river rocks.
The craftsman of these Suruchins is the leading expert in the Suruchin outside of Okinawa, Leo Scott Britt, III- a sixth-degree black belt in Isshinryu and author of four Martial Arts books including,
Suruchin: Flexible Weapon of Okinawan Kobudo
. To find out more about the author, please see the bottom of this listing.
    The Rocks:
The Suruchins are made using 2 river rocks ranging in weight from 190-270 grams each (6.7 oz -9.5 oz). Each individual Suruchin's rocks are matched to each other within 10 grams (0.4 oz), making for good balance.
The rocks' holes have been drilled and beveled to ease wear on the rope.
One rock, on one-side, has the craftsman's logo stamped in green ink.
    The Rope:
The rope is approximately 2.29 meters (7.5 ft) long.
It has been enhanced to increase strength and durability by using 1/4" Hempex rope (a man-made rope far stronger than natural fiber with a tensile strength of 1,142lb).
The addition of a short, brown Kevlar sleeve is added at the friction points to reduce wear on the rope during use.
To retain maximum strength, the end loops of the rope are permanently formed by splicing and whipping.
    The Carrying Bag:
The bag included is a 6"x 8" 100% cotton muslin drawstring, with the craftsman's logo stamped in green ink.
    The Book:

    IMPORTANT
    ***

The photos are provided to show examples only.
    ***
These Suruchin are intended for forms/kata use and
    are not for sparring/self defense
. They should only be used under the close supervision of a qualified instructor.
    CUSTOM ORDERS
    How to order:
    Determine your rope length
: The traditional length of the Suruchin is 1.5x arm span. Measure the length from palm to palm of your extended arms and multiply that by 1.5 to get your rope length. Example: the 7 foot rope used in the pre-made Suruchins listed for sale would be for an arm span of approximately 4'5" to 5'.
    About your rocks' weight:
Your rocks will be chosen by the craftsman and will be approximately between 190 grams to 270 grams each. The rocks will be matched to each other within 10 grams (0.4 oz) Please understand that since these are natural river rocks and not machine-made, offering exact rock weights is not possible. For youth/young adult Suruchin custom orders, rocks of a lesser weight can be requested.
