10ea  Caltrops  - Road Tire Spikes, Hand Made, Steel

These spikes are
NOT
toys. These are handmade one at a time.
On a flat surface they are approximately 2 1/2 inches tall. They are made from steel stock
1/2 inch wide x 1/8 inch thick. They have been welded at
ALL
four contact corners.  They were cut at a angle to allow a sharp point. They are designed so they fit together to make them easy to store, carry and deploy. When stacked the 10ea is 3x3x6 inches.

We do not sharpen the edges.
The reason we don't is it makes them very hard to handle under stress, work out of tires easier,  and create a jagged hole.
They work as is. Some people do sharpen the edges and hone the points, that's your decision. We leave the painting to you so you can match the environment they will be used in. We store ours in used vegetable metal can. This insures they do not damage something by mistake.
What your not told. Round spikes take time to work there way out of a tire, they are like a nail. This allows the tire to hold air for a longer period of time. Round spikes have less surface contact and can be pushed into the ground easier which allows less penetration into the target. Round holes like nail holes are easily plugged. All spikes need to be used in locations that have a  firm ground contact point to prevent being pushed in the ground. Flat spikes twist out and causes a elongated cut which releases the air fasted and are very hard to repair.
To reduce detections consider painting to match the environment. We set them in pairs over a area and not on a string or line. Site location is determined by old tracks. To increase coverage we offset the pairs by several yards to help with them not being detected and increase probability of being hit. Some selected sites may only require just a couple while some sites may require several. Site selection is critical and should be on firm surface what restricts driving options (choke points). Since they are stackable and always land so there is one point up you can just take the whole stack and throw them in a specific area if you happen to be in a big hurry.
These caltrops are not made of stamped metal. Do they work? Yes. I have used them several times. I have carried similar spike for over 20 years in many different environments.

They are not cheap but we have done as much as we can to keep the price down.
